YouthHub is like the LinkedIn for young people. The site enables young people to build an online profile and CV which they can enhance at any time with information, photos and videos. They can also record their activities and skills, seek references, learn about new opportunities and apply for training or jobs.
Resources for Exploring Different Occupations & Careers
Careers NZ is one of the most useful websites for anyone exploring potential career options.
Here you can find information on over 400 different roles/jobs/vocations, including what the work involves, key skills and aptitudes, earning potential, availability of work, training & qualification requirements with links to different training providers, entry requirements, and so on. There are also lots of useful tools for getting career ideas, creating your CV, tips on finding work, etc. Try the CareerQuest quiz which takes ~15mins.
NZtalent.org.nz – is a new resource for Kiwis navigating the workforce
It’s hard to navigate the future workforce, so nztalent.org.nz is here to help students. With over 100 short videos, students can gain insights into different job types, and the skills needed to get into exciting roles. Check out nztalent.org.nz

Occupation Outlook 2017 is an app and website tool launched by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment that uses the latest information available to forecast the employment prospects, cost of training and salaries payable by occupation and sector. It also gives statistics on the number of graduates each year in particular programmes.
Just the Job – NZ’s career seekers inspirational videos website has nearly 300 career videos arranged under their vocational pathway headings.
School Connect is another useful resource for students. You can search for study options and careers and take a short 5min quiz to help you see career pathways suited to your interests and personality.
Will a Robot Take Your Job? – there are now a range of tools available to help us navigate the impacts of new technology on the labour market, such as AI and automation. This BBC website is one such tool which calculates the likelihood of a particular job/role/vocation/profession becoming automated or continuing into the foreseeable future. StudyLink helps students make informed decisions about their tertiary student finance, how to apply for it and manage it online. This is where you can find out about and apply for Student Loans and Student Allowances. In order to register, you will need certain information and documentation, such as your IRD number, bank account details and parents’ income details and evidence (for Student Allowance applications).
Volunteering Canterbury is the Canterbury branch of Volunteering NZ –a registered charity that helps promote and coordinate volunteer work. Volunteering can be a great way to gain experience and build skills, enabling people of all ages to be productive, contributing members of society. SMC includes a service component in its Year 12 and 13 programmes, to assist students in developing a service ethos and, at the same time, developing their experience and skills for their CVs.
