Kickstart your journey at the University of Otago
Preparation programme for Māori students
What is Kia Ita?
“Nōku te maringanui i whai wāhi ahau ki tēnei o ngā kaupapa hirahira. Waihoki, nā tēnei o ngā kaupapa i whakatō te kākano o te ao whare wānanga ki roto i a au.”
This six-week summer school paper will help prepare you for life at university.
Kia Ita is a mix of lectures, workshops and social activities designed to have you hit the ground running.
You will learn new skills to kick-start your university journey, be inspired and welcomed here on campus.
You will meet our amazing Māori staff who will be there to support you every step of the way. And you will do it with other like-minded students.
Who is it for?
Open to all Māori students:
- entering first year tertiary study at the University of Otago
- either shown an interest or already applied to study at Otago
Students who have not yet formally applied to the University will get guidance and assistance to do so.
|6–19 January 2020||2 weeks of distance learning|
|20 January–14 February 2020||4 weeks on-campus (9am–5pm Monday–Friday)|
The first 2 weeks of study are by distance at your home before heading to our Dunedin campus for the last 4 weeks of the paper.
We will provide free on-campus accommodation at one of our residential colleges. You can then focus on your study and not have to worry about finding somewhere to stay, or what to have for dinner.
